Sea Salt & Paper Strategy: Sets, Duo Tempo & Last Chance Timing

Editorial analysis: Sea Salt & Paper rewards knowing when hidden growth is worth more than visible tempo. A card can be valuable for its set, its color bonus, a Duo effect and an end-round bluff at the same time.

Use discard piles as public memory

Only the top discard is directly available on a normal draw, but Crab effects can dig deeper. Remember valuable cards buried in each pile so a future Crab pair has a clear target.

Play Duos when the effect is worth revealing information

Played pairs remain part of your score but become public. Trigger a pair when the extra turn, steal or retrieval is worth telling opponents more about your current point structure.

Multipliers need density

A Lighthouse without Boats or Captain without Sailors is weak. Prioritize multiplier cards after you already have the matching family or can see a realistic route to collecting it.

At 7+, compare Stop with Last Chance mathematically

Stop is best when your hand already scores well and opponents seem close. Last Chance is strongest when you believe your current card-point total is safely ahead and your dominant color is also large enough to make the bonus meaningful.

Near the game target, safe points rise in value

If a normal Stop would push you past 40/35/30, there is little reason to gamble unless another player is likely to finish ahead anyway.

Mermaids create a second victory route

Collecting all four wins immediately, so visible Mermaid concentration changes how aggressively opponents should take from discard piles or end a round before the set completes.
