Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition Win & Loss Rules Explained
Mansions of Madness does not use a universal victory-point target. Each app scenario has its own objective and loss clock.
Follow the app’s scenario objective
The full win condition may be hidden at setup. As the investigation advances, the app reveals what investigators must discover, reach, defeat, solve or perform to complete the scenario.
Wounded is not automatically eliminated
When Damage reaches the relevant threshold, an investigator can become Wounded and later elimination rules become more dangerous. Follow the Damage cards and app prompts rather than treating the first Health threshold as immediate defeat.
Insane changes personal information and behavior
When Horror reaches the relevant threshold, an investigator can become Insane and receives/uses insanity effects according to the rules. Some conditions modify personal victory or behavior without ending the scenario immediately.
Eliminated investigators lose unless an effect says otherwise
Official errata clarifies that an eliminated investigator loses at game end unless an effect specifically states that they win despite elimination.
The app determines scenario resolution
When the group completes or fails the decisive objective, enter/resolve the result in the app. It provides the ending text and identifies the scenario outcome.
Scenario and component text can override general rules
The Rules Reference is the base authority, but component effects and app instructions can create exceptions. Follow the specific effect when it conflicts with a generic rule.
