Battleship Salvo Rules: How the Multi-Shot Variant Works
Salvo is the advanced Battleship variant included with Hasbro Classic. Instead of one shot every turn, your number of shots depends on how many ships you still have afloat.
Start with five shots
At the beginning of the game, all five of your ships are afloat, so your salvo contains five shots.
Fire one at a time
Call the coordinates one at a time. After each shot, the opponent announces whether it is a hit or a miss and you record the result normally.
Losing a ship reduces your salvo
For each of your ships that has been sunk, you fire one fewer shot on your next turn. Four surviving ships means four shots; three surviving ships means three shots, and so on.
Victory is unchanged
You still win by sinking all five opposing ships before all five of yours are sunk.
Harder Salvo option
The current rules also suggest a tougher version in which players do not announce which specific ship was hit, preserving more hidden information.
