Sorry! Board Game Guide: Rules, Cards, Slides & Strategy
Sorry!
Race four pawns from START to HOME, follow movement cards, bump opponents back to START and use slides and switches to change the board.
Sorry! is a classic race game driven by a dedicated card deck. Every draw can change tempo through starting, backward movement, splitting a 7, switching with an 11 or using a SORRY! card to displace an opponent.
Why it matters
The rules surface is larger than it looks: card meanings, exact-count movement, slides, bumping, safety-zone entry, switching and the special extra draw on a 2 all generate recurring questions.
Game at a Glance
Four Pawns
Get all four of your color from START to HOME.
Start Cards
A 1 or 2 can move a pawn out of START.
Bump from START
Replace an opponent’s pawn with one from your START.
Exact Count
Bring each pawn into HOME by exact count.
Rules overview
Draw the top card and follow its movement instructions if possible. Pawns enter from START with a 1 or 2, move around the outer track, enter only their own safety zone and reach HOME by exact count. Landing on an opponent bumps that pawn to START. First player with all four pawns HOME wins.
Key decisions
Choose which pawn receives flexible movement, when to spread pawns rather than race one piece, and whether a switch or bump creates more value than pure forward distance.
