Akropolis Scoring Explained: District Heights, Plazas & Examples
A focused explanation of the scoring exceptions, common mistakes and worked examples.

The core formula
Score each color by multiplying the total height values of its qualifying districts by the number of stars on plazas of that color. A district type with zero matching plaza stars scores zero regardless of how many districts it has.
Houses
Blue Houses must be part of sufficiently large connected groups of Houses to qualify. In the base rules, only those belonging to groups of at least two Houses are scored. Higher floors multiply qualifying height.
Markets
A green Market scores only when no other Market is adjacent to it. Separating them creates qualifying districts; stacking can raise their height value.
Barracks
A red Barracks scores only if it has at least one edge on the outside of your city. Enclosing it later can cause it to stop qualifying.
Temples
A yellow Temple must be completely surrounded by other hexes to qualify. Plan future placements so the temple will be enclosed before tiles run out.
Gardens
Purple Gardens have no additional adjacency restriction in the base rules; they still require purple plaza stars to contribute points.
Example and variants
Suppose qualifying district levels total eight and you have two matching plaza stars: that color yields sixteen points. Evaluate each color separately, then add final stone points. Advanced variants can double certain districts that satisfy optional restrictions; those are not base scoring rules.
Akropolis scoring checklist and examples
Use the five-color scoring formula: qualifying district floor-height total × total matching plaza stars. A color without any plaza stars scores zero. Each leftover Stone contributes one victory point, and the player with more Stones wins a tied final score.
Blue Houses: only the largest group
Locate the single largest contiguous group of blue Housing districts and count those districts’ floor levels. Separate Housing groups do not contribute, even when they contain valuable upper-floor Houses. For example, five level-one Houses and two level-two Houses in your largest group have total value nine. With three blue stars, that group scores twenty-seven points.
Market, Barracks, Temple and Garden conditions
Green Markets qualify if they touch no other Market. Red Barracks qualify if at least one side remains exposed on the city’s boundary. Yellow Temples require complete surrounding neighbors. Purple Gardens have no additional placement condition. A district that fails its condition adds zero floor value. Complete this check for each color before multiplying by its plaza stars.
Example across two colors
Your largest blue Housing group has height value six with two blue stars: twelve points. You have two qualifying level-one Gardens with three purple stars: six points. Five leftover Stones add another five, giving twenty-three before other colors.
Common mistakes
Do not total several separate blue Housing groups, score a Market neighboring another Market, or award district points with no plaza. Barracks can lose eligibility if surrounded later in the game. Consult the complete Akropolis rules guide for drafting and stacking restrictions.
