Dominion Scoring & Game End: Provinces, Curses and Tiebreaks
Dominion ends at the end of a turn when the Province pile is empty or any three Supply piles are empty. Then each player counts Victory points from every card they own, including deck, hand, discard pile and cards in play.
Researched rules guide. Checked September 20, 2026 against Rio Grande Games’ current Dominion Second Edition rules. Editorial standards.
Two conditions can end the game
- The Province pile is empty.
- Any three Supply piles are empty.
Check those conditions at the end of the current player’s turn. Emptying a pile during Buy does not interrupt the rest of that turn.
Count every card you own
| Card | Victory points |
|---|---|
| Estate | 1 |
| Duchy | 3 |
| Province | 6 |
| Curse | −1 |
Kingdom Victory cards such as Gardens score according to their own text. Do not count only the cards visible in your discard pile or final hand.
Worked total
Four Provinces are 24 points, three Duchies are 9, two Estates are 2 and two Curses subtract 2. Before variable Victory cards, that player has 33 points.
Ties compare number of turns
If scores tie, the tied player who took fewer turns wins. If tied players took the same number of turns, they share victory.
