How to Play Age of Innovation: Factions, Terraforming & Books
Age of Innovation is a standalone heavy eurogame in the Terra Mystica family. Players combine asymmetric factions, homelands and palace abilities, then expand across a shared map while developing sciences and innovations.
Choose your asymmetric setup
Your faction, homeland terrain and palace/ability combination determine special rules, income patterns and expansion incentives.
Terraform and build
Spend workers and other resources to terraform adjacent terrain toward your homeland type, then construct dwellings and upgrade them into stronger structures.
Structures create income
Your player board reveals income as buildings leave their starting spaces. Upgrading changes both immediate costs and future round income.
Power and proximity
Building near rivals can reduce some construction costs while also allowing power charging. Expansion therefore creates shared economic incentives as well as competition for space.
Advance sciences
Science tracks provide bonuses, scoring and unlock conditions. Progress can support your faction economy or help qualify for final scoring.
Spend books on innovations
Books are a distinct resource used to acquire innovations. Innovation tiles grant persistent powers, scoring opportunities or economic advantages.
Form cities
Connected structures that meet the city requirements can form a city and claim a City tile reward.
Round and final scoring
Each round has shared scoring incentives. After the final round, add end-game scoring from map position, sciences and other selected conditions.
