How to Play Just One: Unique Clues, Cancellations & Guessing

Just One is a cooperative clue game for 3–7 players. One player tries to guess a mystery word while everyone else writes one clue—but any identical clues are removed before the guesser sees them.

Current version: Repos Production’s edition with 550 mystery words.

Choose the mystery word without showing the guesser

The active player takes a card without looking at its words and chooses a number from 1 to 5. The other players read the corresponding mystery word while the active player keeps it hidden from themselves.

Everyone else writes exactly one clue

Each clue giver secretly writes a single legal word intended to point toward the mystery word. Follow the rulebook’s restrictions on variants, translations, same-family words and other invalid clue forms.

Compare clues before revealing them

The active player closes their eyes or looks away. Clue givers reveal their boards to each other and remove identical clues, including duplicates handled as equivalent under the rulebook.

Show only the surviving unique clues

After cancellations, the active player sees the remaining clues and gets one chance to guess the mystery word.

Correct, wrong and skipped guesses score differently

A correct answer earns the card as 1 point. A wrong answer removes the current card and also costs the top card of the deck. Choosing not to answer loses only the current card.

Play through 13 cards

A complete standard game uses 13 mystery cards. Rotate the active player and continue until the scoring deck is exhausted, then compare the team’s result with the score table.
