How to Play For Sale: Property Auctions & Selling Phase
For Sale is a two-phase auction game. First you spend coins to acquire numbered properties; then you simultaneously play those properties to claim Currency cards.
Scope: classic Eagle-Gryphon two-phase game, excluding the Advisors expansion and Autorama changes.
Phase 1: reveal one property per player
Reveal a group of Property cards equal to the number of players. These range from very low-value properties to the highest-value mansion/skyscraper cards.
Bid or pass
The active player opens the auction. Later bids must exceed the current bid. When you pass, take the lowest-valued Property still available and recover half of your current bid, rounded down under the current Eagle-Gryphon rule; the rest is paid to the bank.
The final bidder takes the highest Property
When only one bidder remains, that player takes the highest-valued Property still available and pays their full bid. Repeat auctions until all properties in use have been distributed.
Phase 2: reveal Currency cards
Reveal one Currency card per player. Everyone secretly chooses one Property card from their hand and reveals simultaneously.
Highest Property gets highest Currency
Rank the revealed Properties. The highest property takes the highest Currency card, second-highest takes the next, and so on. The played Properties are discarded.
Most money wins
After all Properties have been sold, add your Currency cards to any coins left from phase 1. Highest total wealth wins.
