Qwirkle Tile Placement & Exchange Rules
Every Qwirkle line must be either one color with different shapes or one shape with different colors.
Can identical tiles share a line?
No. A line cannot contain a duplicate of the same color-shape tile.
Playing multiple tiles
All tiles you play in one turn must be added to the same line and share one attribute. They do not necessarily have to touch each other, but every resulting line must remain legal.
Adjacency
At least one newly placed tile must connect side-to-side with an existing tile after the opening play.
Can tiles touch illegally in the other direction?
No. Every horizontal and vertical line formed by the placement must satisfy the same color-or-shape rule.
Can you exchange tiles instead?
Yes. If you choose not to place, you may exchange tiles with the bag under the rulebook’s exchange procedure, provided enough tiles remain.
Can you exchange and place in the same turn?
No. Exchanging replaces your placement action for that turn.
