How to Play The Resistance: Avalon – Teams, Missions & Hidden Roles
The Resistance: Avalon is a 5–10 player hidden-role game with no player elimination. Good tries to complete three missions; Evil tries to sabotage three missions or identify Merlin after Good succeeds.
Assign hidden roles and resolve starting information
Players secretly receive Good or Evil characters. In the standard core setup, Evil players know one another and Merlin receives limited information about Evil. Optional roles such as Percival, Morgana, Mordred and Oberon modify what players know.
The leader proposes a mission team
For each mission, the current leader chooses the exact number of players shown on the mission track and places team tokens on them.
Everyone votes to approve or reject the team
All players secretly choose Approve or Reject, then reveal together. A majority approval sends the team on the mission. If rejected, leadership moves to the next player and a new team is proposed.
Five consecutive rejected teams gives Evil the win
If the table rejects five team proposals in the same mission round without approving a mission team, Evil wins immediately under the standard rules.
Mission members submit cards secretly
Good players must submit Success. Evil players on the mission may submit Success or Fail. Shuffle mission cards before revealing so individual choices remain hidden.
Most missions fail from one Fail card
A mission normally fails if at least one Fail is revealed. In games with seven or more players, the fourth mission requires two Fail cards to fail, as shown on the mission board.
Three failures wins for Evil; three successes triggers assassination
If three missions fail, Evil wins. If three succeed, Good is not safe yet: the Assassin gets the final chance to identify Merlin. A correct assassination gives Evil the win; otherwise Good wins.
