When several actions advance the same long-term goal, prefer the one currently receiving the stronger gold/VP/resource modifier from the crane.

Technology advances score little at game end if Charles University remains low. If technology is a major path, develop both tracks rather than maximizing one alone.
Build walls and buildings for adjacency bonuses
Tile placement around your board creates immediate corner/plaza rewards. Plan the next two or three placements so valuable icons meet rather than treating each construction independently.
Windows are action compression
Gold and silver windows can advance the Cathedral/Hunger Wall or purchase an extra action. Save them when an extra action can complete a high-value chain; spend them earlier when landmark position will compound scoring.
Corner tokens need multiplier progress
Blue and red bonus tokens become valuable only if the matching Hunger Wall/Cathedral column raises their final multiplier. Collecting many tokens without sideways landmark progress leaves points stranded.
Last turns: focus on final formulas
With a fixed 16 turns, late production has little time to pay back. Shift toward final-scoring tiles, wall-count thresholds, University/Technology multiplication and landmark rows.
