Just One

Give unique one-word clues to help a teammate guess a mystery word—but identical clues cancel before the guess is made.

♟3–7 Players◷20 Minutes♜Ages 8+⚙Light◆Cooperative Words

One player tries to guess a mystery word while everyone else secretly writes a one-word clue.

Before the guess, duplicate clues are removed. The guesser only sees the surviving unique clues, so useful answers have to be both relevant and distinctive.

Why We Love It

Just One creates its puzzle through cancellation. Obvious clues feel safe, but if two players choose the same word both clues disappear, so the group has to predict one another as well as help the guesser.

What is Just One?

Just One is a cooperative party game by Ludovic Roudy and Bruno Sautter for 3–7 players. Everyone works together to help the active player identify a mystery word.

Repos Production’s current version contains 550 new words and is listed at about 20 minutes.

How the game works

The active player chooses a numbered mystery word without seeing it. Every other player writes one one-word clue in secret.

Before the guesser sees the clues, all duplicate clues are removed. The remaining unique clues are revealed, and the active player gets one chance to guess the word.

The decisions that define it

The best clue is not simply the most obvious clue. If several players are likely to write the same word, an otherwise perfect clue can disappear completely.

Players therefore balance clarity against uniqueness, trying to predict both the guesser and the other clue writers.

Who is it for?

Choose Just One if you want a fast cooperative party game with almost no downtime and rules that fit mixed-experience groups.

Choose Codenames if you want teams, repeated clue-giving pressure and a more competitive structure.
