Architects of the West Kingdom
Architects of the West Kingdom explained: place growing groups of workers, hire apprentices, collect resources, build landmarks and manage virtue and corruption.
Place workers on action spaces where larger groups make later visits stronger, then decide when to arrest opponents’ workers before they build too much momentum.
Apprentices, buildings and the virtue track create several paths through a highly interactive worker-placement economy.
Why We Love It
Worker placement becomes cumulative rather than restrictive: adding more workers to the same location improves its yield, which creates visible engines that opponents can disrupt.
About Architects of the West Kingdom
Players gather materials, hire apprentices and construct buildings or contribute to the cathedral. Capturing workers and using the black market introduces direct interaction and moral tradeoffs.
Virtue can unlock or restrict options, so profitable shortcuts may carry long-term costs.
Game at a Glance
Stack Workers
Repeated placements increase the strength of future actions.
Build
Spend resources on buildings and cathedral progress.
Capture Rivals
Arrest opposing workers before their action groups become too efficient.
Manage Virtue
Virtue and corruption alter available actions and scoring.
Who Architects suits
Players who want interactive worker placement, engine building and meaningful tactical disruption without direct combat.
Rules overview
On a turn, place one worker on an action space and resolve it at strength based on how many of your workers are already there. Gather resources, recruit apprentices, construct buildings, work on the cathedral, use the black market or capture opponents’ workers. As buildings and apprentices accumulate, your engine becomes more specialized. The game ends when enough building spaces are filled, then points are awarded for buildings, cathedral progress, virtue and other effects.
Key decisions
Editorial analysis: Efficient worker clusters are powerful but exposed. Build momentum where rivals have little incentive to arrest you, and use captures when they both slow an opponent and improve your own cash flow.
