Troyes Strategy: Dice Efficiency, Influence & Hidden Characters

Editorial analysis: High dice are not automatically good. The strongest turn is the one that converts a dice group into the most actions, income or points for its total cost.

Calculate action efficiency before buying dice

Opponent dice can be expensive. Buy them when the added pip value crosses an important Activity-card threshold or completes a major scoring action.

Influence is a conversion tool

Use Influence when a reroll or die flip meaningfully changes the number of action repetitions. Spending Influence for a tiny improvement is usually weak.

Events are opportunities as well as threats

Removing event cubes can provide points and Influence while protecting the table. Target Events where the reward and prevention value are both high.

Watch every Character condition

You know only part of the hidden scoring set, but visible behavior can hint at opponents’ Character cards. Build broadly enough that several Character categories remain plausible.

Cathedral needs timing

Construction can produce points and avoid a final penalty, but a die group spent there is not powering an Activity card. Build when the level reward and end-game protection justify the opportunity cost.

Late game: spend for final formulas

Once Activity engines have few rounds remaining, shift dice toward direct VP, Events, Cathedral and the Character conditions you can identify.
