Dominion Allies Expansion Guide: Favors, Allies & Rotating Split Piles

Dominion: Allies is the 14th Dominion expansion. It contains 31 Kingdom card piles and introduces Favors, Ally cards, Liaisons and rotating split piles.

What Allies adds

  • 31 Kingdom card piles
  • Favor tokens
  • Ally landscape cards
  • Liaison cards
  • Six split piles with four different cards each

Favors

Favors are a stored resource. When a card gives you a Favor, you place a token on your Favor mat; Ally cards define how those Favors can be spent.

Allies and Liaisons

Liaisons are Kingdom cards that generate Favors. If a game includes a Liaison, one Ally is selected for that game. The Ally gives everyone a shared set of optional Favor-spending abilities.

Rotating split piles

Allies includes six split piles containing four different cards each. These piles can rotate which card is available, so access changes during the game rather than simply revealing the next card when the current one empties.

Only one Ally per game

The official rules specify that you use only one Ally in a game even if multiple Liaison cards are present.

Compatibility

Rio Grande states that Allies can be combined with any other Dominion expansion.

Who should add Allies?

Choose Allies if you like resource systems that sit outside the deck and if changing Supply access appeals to you. It adds more state tracking than Renaissance but remains built around normal Dominion turns.
