Splendor: The Silk Road contains two modules: Cities and Trading Posts. Both change long-term goals without replacing the core gem-token and development-card engine.
What The Silk Road adds
- 7 double-sided City tiles
- 20 Trading Post tiles
- 1 Noble tile
- Rules for the two modules
Cities
City tiles replace the normal Noble-based endgame structure with specific prestige/development requirements. This means winning is no longer only about reaching the familiar prestige threshold; the selected City changes what a successful engine must produce.
Trading Posts
Trading Posts are unlocked by meeting development-color conditions. Once opened, they grant persistent powers that improve token efficiency, prestige production or other parts of your engine.
Can you use both modules together?
They are modular. Use one or both depending on how much change you want.
Compatibility
Asmodee states that The Silk Road can be combined with other Splendor expansions.
Who should add it?
Choose The Silk Road when you want new strategic goals without making the card market substantially more complicated.
