Root: The Homeland Expansion is the newest major faction box in the current Root line. It adds three factions and two new maps, making it one of the largest single injections of matchup variety in Root.

Lilypad Diaspora
The Diaspora tries to establish a home in the Woodland while managing the tension between safety and escalating militancy. Its design revolves around how peaceful integration can turn into reprisals and stronger aggression.
Twilight Council
The Council tries to redirect Woodland conflict into assemblies and political influence. Its identity centers on debate and political connections rather than simply winning through the largest concentration of warriors.
Knaves of the Deepwood
The Knaves are raiders and hostage-takers. They strike from the forests, capture warriors and use ransom-driven incentives to create a very different form of interaction from standard territorial factions.
Two new maps
Homeland includes two additional maps, expanding Root’s geographic variety alongside the faction roster. This matters because map structure can change choke points, movement value and faction matchups even when the factions remain the same.
Does Homeland require Root?
Yes. Leder Games lists Homeland as requiring the Root base game.
How does Homeland fit with Advanced Setup?
Homeland belongs to the modern Root rules environment and includes faction setup material designed for the current setup framework. Use the latest Law of Root and Learn to Play material when mixing Homeland with older boxes.
Who should add Homeland?
Homeland is best for established Root groups that already understand the base factions and want maximum matchup variety. For a first expansion, Underworld may be easier to prioritize because its two factions come with immediately recognizable map variety; Homeland is a larger roster expansion for a developed collection.
