All submitted images are shuffled and revealed, then everyone except the storyteller votes. Scoring rewards clues that some, but not all, players interpret correctly.
Why We Love It
Dixit works because the clue must land in a narrow middle ground. If everyone guesses the storyteller’s image—or nobody does—the clue was too obvious or too obscure.

What is Dixit?
Dixit is Jean-Louis Roubira’s storytelling and image-interpretation game. The current 2021 Refresh supports 3–8 players and includes 84 large illustrated cards.
Each round has one storyteller, whose goal is to give a clue that is neither too obvious nor too obscure.
How the game works
The storyteller secretly chooses a card and gives a word, phrase, sound or other clue. Every other player submits a card that could fit the same clue.
The submitted cards are shuffled and revealed, then everyone except the storyteller votes for the storyteller’s card. Scoring rewards clues that some—but not all—players solve.
The decisions that define it
A good clue sits between transparency and ambiguity. If everyone guesses correctly, the storyteller earns no points; if nobody does, the clue was also too remote.
Knowing the group matters because references, humor and shared experiences can make the same clue easy for one table and impossible for another.
Who is it for?
Choose Dixit if you want creativity, storytelling and a social game where interpreting people matters more than optimizing a board.
Choose Mysterium for cooperative image deduction or Codenames for more structured word clues.
