7 Wonders Leaders Expansion Guide: Leader Draft, 49 Cards & Compatibility
7 Wonders: Leaders adds a new planning phase before the normal Ages. Players draft historical personalities whose abilities can shape science, military, economy and scoring plans for the rest of the game.
What Leaders adds
- 49 Leader cards
- A Leader draft before normal Age play
- 2 Wonders with Leader-related effects
- 6 bonus Leaders for use with Cities
- Additional coins and scoring support
The Leader draft
At the beginning of the game, players draft Leaders before drafting the normal Age cards. This gives each civilization strategic information earlier than in standard 7 Wonders.
A Leader can encourage you to pursue science, commercial development, military pressure or another scoring path, but you still need the Age-card draft to support that plan.
Why Leaders changes long-term planning
Base-game 7 Wonders often asks you to adapt quickly to the hands you receive. Leaders adds another layer: your pre-game choices create incentives that can influence what cards you value during all three Ages.
New Wonders
The current edition includes two Wonders with effects linked to the Leaders system.
Leaders and Cities
The box includes six bonus Leader cards specifically for groups that also own Cities.
Compatibility
Repos Production states that Leaders is compatible with all other current-edition 7 Wonders expansions.
Does it make 7 Wonders much harder?
No. Repos specifically positions Leaders as simple to integrate. It adds strategic direction more than ongoing rules maintenance, which is why it is one of the easiest expansions to teach.
Who should add Leaders?
Leaders is a strong first expansion when your group wants more strategic identity without adding a large side board or extra conflict system. Armada changes more; Leaders integrates almost entirely into the normal card-drafting rhythm.
