Scythe: The Rise of Fenris Expansion Guide
Scythe: The Rise of Fenris is the largest narrative expansion for Scythe. It can be played as an 8-game campaign with surprises, unlocks and persistent elements, or as a toolbox of 11 reusable modules after—or instead of—the campaign.
Two ways to use Rise of Fenris
Stonemaier presents the expansion in two formats:
- Campaign mode: an 8-episode story with unlocks, persistent choices and hidden content.
- Modular mode: 11 modules that can be mixed into ordinary Scythe games in different combinations.
Is the campaign replayable?
Yes. The publisher describes the campaign as fully resettable and replayable. That matters because the box uses hidden tuckboxes and reveals, but it is not designed as a permanently consumable legacy game.
What is inside?
The box contains the campaign guidebook, 13 plastic miniatures, 62 wooden tokens, 2 custom dice, 25 tiles, more than 100 cardboard tokens, a campaign log and an achievement sheet.
Do the modules work with other Scythe expansions?
Yes. Stonemaier states that the 11 modules are compatible with all Scythe expansions. One of the modules provides a fully cooperative mode that is separate from the competitive campaign.
Player count
With only the Scythe base game, Rise of Fenris supports 1–5 players. If you also own Invaders from Afar, it can be used with up to 7 players.
When should you add it?
Rise of Fenris works best after the core game already feels familiar. The appeal is not teaching new players the fundamentals; it is changing assumptions, creating surprises and giving experienced groups new systems to explore.
