Survive the Island Scoring & Monster Rules: Rescues, Sharks and Kaijus
Survive the Island scores only explorers that reach safety. The creature system matters because it determines which explorers and boats survive long enough to score.
Rescued explorers score their hidden treasure value
When one of your explorers reaches a safe island, keep it in your rescued area. At game end, reveal and add the printed treasure/value numbers on those rescued explorers.
Explorers lost to the sea or monsters score zero
Only survivors on safe islands count toward your final total. An explorer that began valuable but never escaped contributes nothing.
Sharks
Sharks are especially dangerous to swimmers. Their movement and attack rules make open-water routes risky when explorers leave the island without boat protection.
Sea serpents
Sea serpents threaten escape routes and can destroy explorers/boats according to their current-edition rules. Treat any boat ending near a serpent as vulnerable to the next creature roll.
Kaijus
The 2024 edition adds kaijus as a new monster type. They follow their own movement/destruction rule and create an additional way for opponents to attack crowded escape paths.
Highest rescued value wins
Add only the values of your safely rescued explorers. The player with the highest total wins; use the 2024 rulebook’s tiebreak if totals are equal.
