Scythe Movement & Riverwalk Rules: Rivers, Lakes, Tunnels and Units

Scythe movement is restricted by terrain until faction abilities are unlocked. Riverwalk is one of the key early movement upgrades.

Can units cross rivers at the start of the game?

Normally no. Rivers block standard land movement unless a faction ability, Riverwalk, tunnel or other rule specifically permits the move.

How does Riverwalk work?

Riverwalk is faction-specific. When unlocked, it lets that faction’s character and mechs cross rivers to the terrain types shown for that faction.

Does every faction Riverwalk to the same terrain?

No. The destination terrain types differ by faction, which is why each faction mat/player aid specifies its own Riverwalk access.

Do workers gain Riverwalk?

Riverwalk is tied to the faction’s unlocked movement ability and the units specified by that ability. Check the faction wording before assuming every unit type can cross.

What about lakes?

Lakes are not normal land territories. Most factions cannot enter them unless they have an ability that specifically allows lake movement or use.

How do tunnels work?

Territories with tunnel icons are treated as connected for units able to use the tunnel network under the standard movement rules.

Do airships follow Riverwalk?

No. The Wind Gambit expansion states that airships are not constrained by rivers and lakes in the same way as standard ground units.
