Dominion Seaside Expansion Guide: Duration Cards & 2nd Edition
Dominion: Seaside is the second Dominion expansion and one of the most influential because it introduced Duration cards—cards that remain in play and produce effects on later turns.
What Seaside adds
- 27 Kingdom card piles in the current edition
- Duration cards
- Cards that prepare or alter future turns
- Strong trashing, hand-management and timing interactions
Duration cards
Duration cards stay in play after the turn they are used because they have effects that happen on a later turn. This changes Dominion’s normal cleanup rhythm and makes planning across turns more important.
Next-turn planning
Rio Grande describes Seaside’s central theme as “your next turn.” Some cards generate future actions, cards or money, while others shape the next hand or carry value across the cleanup boundary.
Second Edition changes
The current Seaside release is the Second Edition. Rio Grande replaced several First Edition cards and added new cards while keeping the expansion’s Duration-focused identity.
Does Seaside include base cards?
No. Like modern Dominion expansions generally, Seaside requires Dominion or another source of the Basic cards and core rules.
Can Seaside combine with other expansions?
Yes. Dominion sets are designed to mix. Rio Grande’s current Seaside rules include recommended Kingdoms combining it with many other expansions.
Who should add Seaside?
Seaside is an excellent early expansion if you want Dominion to become more about multi-turn sequencing without adding a large extra board or resource system.
