Spirit Island Jagged Earth Expansion Guide
Jagged Earth is the largest foundational expansion for Spirit Island. It adds ten Spirits, two modular island boards, more Power and Event cards, new Adversaries, additional token systems and enough components to raise the maximum player count to six.
What Jagged Earth adds
- 10 new Spirit panels with unique Powers
- 2 modular island boards
- New Major, Minor and Unique Power cards
- Event cards and expanded token play
- Badlands as an additional token type
- New Adversaries and scenarios
- Additional Invader, Dahan, Presence and marker components
Does Jagged Earth include the Branch & Claw systems?
Jagged Earth uses the expanded Event-and-token framework associated with Branch & Claw and adds more material for Beasts, Disease, Wilds and Strife alongside the new Badlands token. You do not need Branch & Claw in order to use Jagged Earth.
Badlands
Badlands amplify certain damage dealt in their land, making positioning and damage thresholds more important. Because they can benefit Spirit offense without simply stopping Invader actions, they create a different tactical role from Disease, Wilds or Strife.
Ten new Spirits
The expansion’s Spirits cover a wide range of complexity and play styles. Many assume players already understand the base game’s timing, elements, innate Powers and spatial control, so Jagged Earth is better after several base-game sessions.
New Adversaries
Jagged Earth adds the Habsburg Monarchy and Russia as new Adversaries, each changing the Invader puzzle through its own escalating rules.
Six-player support
The extra island boards and components allow Spirit Island to be played with up to six players. Larger games are valid but naturally increase coordination and table-management time.
Do you need the base game?
Yes. Greater Than Games lists Jagged Earth as requiring a copy of Spirit Island.
Who should add Jagged Earth?
Choose Jagged Earth when your group already understands Spirit Island and wants the largest increase in Spirits, island variety and advanced systems. If you want a smaller first step, Branch & Claw is easier to absorb.
